Marks the Spot

In 2009, the Roxbury Cultural Network launches its X Marks the Spot campaign. The slogan is meant to evoke fond childhood memories spent playing with pirate maps and hunting for hidden treasures and undiscovered wonders. The locations of the treasures were always marked by a big red X on a map, often at the end of an exciting and rewarding trail full of adventure.

Roxbury, which is located in the geographic center of Boston, has dozens of hidden gems representing the bounty of American history, arts, and culture, from the colonial era to the present day. The community's convenient access to public transportation and major highways make getting here extremely simple, thus giving you more time to enjoy the excitement and rewards!

Roxbury's location at the crossroads of Boston has also made it an imporant cultural and civic hub for centuries. Use the X in the middle of the name to remind yourself that this is the place where George Washington, Donna Summer, Malcolm X, the largest concentration of Pullman porters, New Edition, German brewers, Irish laborers, Jewish architects, and thousands of others made their mark.
