The Franklin Park Coalition is a non-profit organization that advocates for the preservation and restoration of Boston’s largest park, the “jewel” of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace. Coalition members are everyday park-walkers, neighbors, community activists, athletes, dog owners, and families. What we have in common is our love of the park and our desire to see it be a place where people from all walks of life can come together to find nature, tranquility, health and community.
Franklin Park’s 527 acres includes a 200-acre forest with walking trails. It’s home to an 18-hole public golf course, tennis courts, baseball fields, a premier cross country course, old stone ruins, and New England's largest zoo. Come spend the day! Have lunch at the golf clubhouse, watch a Sunday afternoon cricket game, and walk the 2.5 mile loop path through woods, over old stone bridges, and past a picturesque pond.
Arts in the Park
The Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park, produced by the Franklin Park Coalition, brings free summer performances to the park community. Elma Lewis’ original Playhouse featured Duke Ellington, Odetta, the Billy Taylor Jazz Trio, and other greats. Today the Playhouse shows are every Tuesday and offer local headline acts to an enthusiastic outdoor park audience.
Additionally, Nature’s Gems, an annual art exhibit and sale, brings together talented local artists who use the park, nature, and community as the subject of their work.
